Floor Drain Cleanout Locating; Buried Under a Topping Slab – Portland, OR

GPRS LLC. of Portland was contacted by a large general contractor working on a new apartment complex in the area to locate floor drain cleanouts that had accidently been covered over with concrete during the final pouring of a grade slab. These cleanouts were metallic and approximately 8 cm diameter. It was estimated that 2-4 cm of concrete was poured over each cleanout, and these drains needed to be located in order to avoid the task of replacing each one. All other methods by the plumber and build team to locate these targets fell short, and scanning was considered a last resort. GPRS mobilized to the job site later the same day, and the scan took around 3.5 hours to complete. Since no formal plans or dimensions were kept to help describe the location of each drain, a grid scan of 4” on center spacing was performed over the entire slab.

The cost and time that it would have taken to replace these drains, or destructively locate them would have been significantly more than having them located successfully and quickly with GPR. In addition to locating the 3 drains, GPRS was also able to verify the location of the drain line network that was connected to them. The finishing team was then able to slope the slab around each drain, and quickly resolve the initial mistake of burying them with a topping slab. Avoid potential risks, costs, and frustrations, and gain peace of mind by having us survey your locations prior to drilling, cutting, or destructively testing. GPRS can be on site within 24 hours of a request in order to keep these important concrete drilling/cutting projects running smoothly.
